The Dunham Reservoir

PRESS ADVISORY July 21, 2025 MEMBERS OF COMMUNITY TO JOIN WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS IN CALLING FOR PROTECTION OF MARTIN DUNHAM RESERVOIR ON THURSDAY, COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE MCLAUGHLIN ANNOUNCES Members of the community and Rensselaer County, state and local elected officials will come together on Thursday to call for protection of the Martin Dunham Reservoir in Grafton during a press conference on Thursday, July 24, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced. The press conference will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the reservoir parking area on Dunham Road in Grafton. Members of the press are invited to attend. Local officials will be joined by members of the Save Dunham group, who are leading an effort to protect the reservoir for use by future generations. Built before World War I in 1911, the nearly 100-acre reservoir is an important recreational and environmental asset, say supporters. The state is now considering plans to decommission the dam, which would result in the reservoir draining, and no longer supporting activities including boating, kayaking, hiking, nature watching and other activities.
